Partnerships by UTM, TNMEA, and CMAF

When Covid-19 came down on March 19, 2020, I reached out to my former student and current TNMEA President, Alexis Derryberry on March 20th, 2020 with a crazy idea; the idea was to connect world-class artists suddenly out of work, with busy music students who suddenly had this thing called time on their hands. UTM was able to bring the best and brightest in all facets of music to students and community members anywhere who cared to tune in. Gratitude also to Katherine Felthauser Sam and Kerry Durso, (two of my UTM Percussion graduates), for their unfaltering dedication in trusting their teach on this crazy idea and diving in 100% without hesitation when I asked for their help as did Alexis - they are my soul sisters and then some! It was a cool ride y’all. In 2020, we hosted 62 programs viewed in 45 countries with 2.5 million engagements and that was in 2020; the numbers increase to this day. Please check out all Keeping the Beat programs by TNMEA out Youtube Channel at THIS link. Also, special thanks to the CMAF for their partnership on this special and unexpected project! Even though this time now seems like a dream and a lifetime ago, it is one of my proudest moments and I am forever grateful for my trusted girls who responded to the call and jumped on the BAND wagon (pun INTENDED) to put this together in a flash. - Julie Hill, creator/coordinator
